Hawaii Fleet Renewal Complete
With Matsonia now in service, Matson’s seven-year, $900+ million Hawaii fleet renewal is complete. Matsonia joins its Kanaloa Class sister ship Lurline in Matson’s Hawaii service. Together, these two combination container/roll-on, roll-off (“con-ro”) ships call Honolulu, Long Beach, and Oakland weekly and allow Matson to offer twice-weekly Hawaii service from Northern and Southern California.
The Kanaloa Class vessels have an enclosed garage with room for approximately 500 vehicles, plus ample space for rolling stock and breakbulk cargo. Equipped with the latest in green technology, Matsonia and Lurline feature a fuel-efficient hull design, environmentally safe double hull fuel tanks, fresh water ballast systems, and the first Tier 3 dual-fuel engines to be deployed in containerships serving West Coast ports. Customers will appreciate the convenience of direct westbound service from Dutch Harbor, Alaska to Ningbo and Shanghai, China or transfer at our hub in Shanghai to other cities in Asia via Matson’s partner network.
Matson’s Asia partner network provides timely connections from Shanghai to ports in South Korea (Busan), Japan (Hakata, Kobe, Yokohama), Taiwan (Kaohsiung), China (Dalian, Qingdao), Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh), and Thailand (Laem Chabang).
